My first Bikram class was in 2009 at a studio in Florida — there were beach towels, bikinis and carpet. It was different from the yoga I was used to but I loved the heat and the similar but different postures. Around the same time I had started practicing multiple times a week in Minneapolis  — mostly heated vinyasa classes and some 60 minute 26/2 hot classes.

Eventually I created a habit of practicing yoga daily and continue to do so. Back then I would take a Bikram class a few times a month—for a challenge, on special occasions, while traveling—I appreciated the set sequence, the hot humid environment and the way I felt both physically and mentally refreshed after a traditional 90-minute class.

In June 2020 the Original Hot Yoga 90 min class became my daily go to.  I have learned so much since immersing myself in this series and participating in teacher training.  The way this sequence stretches and strengthens the breath, body and mind is unique to any other form of exercise.  I love the fact that a class can be filled with students with a range of experience  — from 20 years to 2 weeks — and each student will get something out of the class.

I will forever be grateful for this community and the opportunity to teach and practice at MPLS Yoga.   I am inspired daily by the focused and dedicated students who show up to practice.  See you soon in the hot room!
